Acne is the most common skin condition with substantial cutaneous and psychologic disease burden characterized by different areas of scaly red skin (seborrhea), pinheads (papules), blackheads and whiteheads (comedones), large papules (nodules) and scarring (pimples). The pathogenesis and existing treatments for acne is complex. The severity of acne varies greatly among individuals and genetic background plays an important role in its development. Pathogenic factors include androgen-induced seborrhea, follicular hyperkeratosis, microbial population and immunological and inflammatory processes. The therapy includes year long administration of synthetic medicines which can cause severe side effects. Hence, the safe and less toxic substances are need for the treatment. Herbal based medicines are safe alternate in which extracts of natural origin are used as medicines or health-promoting agents. The aim of herbal therapy is to provide safe, efficacious and economical medicines so that people from both developing and developed nations can utilize them. Pterocarpus marsupium is a traditional drug used for different activities in various disabilities; it has been observed that Pterocarpus marsupium shows promising effects like hypertriglyceridemia and antidiabetic. It is also a potential source of drug used as an anti-inflammatory, nootropic, antidiabetic, astringent, anthelmintic, hypolipidemic, hepatoprotective, anti-ulcer, antioxidant, cardiotonic activities and has least side effects. The Portulacaceae family is commonly used by many ethnic communities as traditional medicine all through the world. The maximum number of plants of the family is used in Indian traditional medicine. The ethnopharmacologial studies of this family indicate that plants of the family have antidiabetic, antibacterial, antifungal and antioxidant properties. Few reviews have been published yet, providing information regarding medicinal plants of the family and their biomedical properties. All published reviews have focused either on particular taxa or a few species. The present review is focused on the traditional medicinal uses of the plant, phytochemical properties and pharmacological studies of Talinum cuneifolium (vahl.) Willd. A study of the literature revealed significant traditional medicinal importance of the family. The most important property of plants of the family is antidiabetic activity and is shown by the large number of plant species studied.
